The Children’s Museum at La Habra has a story of its own. The museum occupies a 1923 train depot, giving a family outing a direct connection to the city’s railroad and agricultural past.

The museum’s own history blog identifies the building as the former Union Pacific station. In its 2015 account, the baggage room became a model train display, while a former freight room housed rotating exhibits. Those rooms once helped move the oranges and avocados grown in the surrounding area.

There is another depot next door. The older Pacific Electric station, built in 1908, became the La Habra Depot Theater. The two buildings are easy to confuse, but their different dates and railway connections make for a good little discovery for anyone who likes to look twice at an ordinary street.

The children’s museum opened in December 1977 and now serves young learners at 301 South Euclid Street. It is closed Mondays. The current admission page lists general entry at $12 for visitors ages 2 and older. Adults visiting without children must schedule an appointment with education staff, so history-minded grown-ups should call 562-383-4236 before planning a visit.
